Webmaster Tools
By Magreth Mcgill
The idea of earning a living from home is appealing to say the least. Lets face it, who wants to go to the office every day, the time spent getting ready, traveling to and from, then actually doing a eight to nine hour job, what ever that may be. It doesn't appeal to most people, but it is something they do because that was what their role models did. Since the advent of the Internet, a new breed has risen from seemingly nowhere. The breed are known as Webmasters and Internet Marketers. The skills they use are probably no different to the skills needed in most business. But the rewards can far outweigh working for the 9-5 boss. It takes self discipline to work from home. Not to slack off at every opportunity. But then if you were working for yourself wouldn't you be more interested in doing the work rather than looking busy! Well when I started working from my PC at home, there were long days with anywhere from 12 to 18 hours, but it has the rewards and that is what we work hard for to begin with. With the right tools you automate as much as you can and sooner rather than later, you can take it a little easier. I would encourage you - if you have thought about becoming your own boss... investigate the possibilities don't keep complaining about having a rotten job and no money. The beauty of the internet is that you can start part time and work your way to full time while still at a 9-5'er and once you have the income streaming in to take over the day job... well need I say more? If I can leave you with one great saying that I learned a long time ago... If you always do what you always did, you'll alway get what you always got...

Don't overlook a large contingent of folks that just need a little extra income and not a full time job. I'm retired and have thoroughly enjoyed the elevated lifestyle the Internet has made available to me for the last 10 years, even if it is sporadic.
When you read the garbage that says ... go to work in your dressing gown ... I cringe. It is the WRONG message to send to people. Would you go to your real work place in your PJ's? Didn't think so. :o) Working from home is a REAL JOB and has to be approached in the same way as you would the good old 9 to 5. The ONLY thing you leave out when comparing the two, is the commute. When you work from home, you kiss that part of the 'work scenario' goodbye forever. Treat your work at home 'job' AS a job, and the rewards will equal your efforts. Great intel Meg. Many thanks.
Quite right Warren, there are many of us who need extra income, although I think most of us in that position would prefer to earn all our income online, if we manage to find the way that works best for us.

Thank you for your comments gentlemen, I am working on some new ideas and will be upgrading the site soon. I hope that you can find something that will help you in there!
I used to work from home doing computer support for overseas companies, and sometimes they would be on the phone from 6am with problems that needed sorting out. In the summer the room I used for an office used to get very hot, as it faced the sun, and the mini-computer I had in there also generated a lot of heat. The central air in the house couldn't cope, not in that room, so frequently I worked in just a pair of shorts in the summer. Since I never had visitors or needed to be face to face with a client, unless I was travelling to their offices overseas, it was the best way to try and keep comfortable.
I am impressed by the way you have explained defination of Internet!!
